George Nicholas Thompson (1832-1891) of Leasburg, NC, entered the University in 1848, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated in 1853. He became a planter, physician, and lawyer, serving as county attorney from 1860 to 1865 and as a US commissioner from 1868 to 1869. He was married three times. From 1889 to his death in 1891 he served on the board of trustees.
